Anglers fishing for tarpon outside of Rio Parismina in Costa Rica get a surprise visit by a hammerhead

For immediate release Monday August 3, 2020 Parismina, Costa Rica – A group of Tarpon fisherman ran into a “big” surprise Monday in the from of a large hammerhead shark on Costa Rica’s Caribbean Coast. The Parismina river is a famous fishing destination for anglers seeking big tarpon as well as snook. A short time after hooking up with the silvery tarpon aka “Silver King” the anglers noticed the adrenaline level of the tarpon pick up followed closely by what was soon clear to be a hammerhead shark. Tarpon are not good eating fish, but the anglers did try to “rip” the hook out of the tarpons mouth so he had a fair chance at escaping the apex predator. Unfortunately for the tarpon the escape plan did not pan out and he became a meal to the shark which appeared to have no complaints about the famously unpalatable flavor of the tarpon. Considering the small size of the boat, and the number of anglers on board, they kept their cool pretty well as they did their best to free the tarpon. This amazing sport fishing video was captured Monday August 7th, 2020 by Jose Andres Delgado Campos.
