Amazing juvenile roosterfish captured on video in Costa Rica

Anthony Carmona captures video of baby Roosterfish in Costa Rica with release!

Everyone loves cute little videos of animals, but this roosterfish video captured this weekend in Costa Rica is extra special because it’s so rare. This little roosterfish will grow between 60-70 centimeters in it’s first year and can grow to over a meter in its lifetime and weigh over 120lbs! People come from all over the world to visit Costa Rica in search of this legendary fighting fish in search of the ultimate matchup. The roosterfish has the power of a jack, but with its seven spine dorsal fin carving up the oceans surface, it’s sleek black racing stripes and it’s jumping ability, this fish is at the top of nearly every anglers “fish list”. Roosterfish average between 10 and 15lbs but most fishing lodges and resorts see them released at over 60lbs every couple of weeks.  Because the meat of a roosterfish is not very good and the fact that they are so important to Costa Rica’s economy, these are release fish only. If you come to Costa Rica in search of one of these beasts, you can find them all along the Pacific Coast and they can be caught year round. Don’t forget to get a fishing license, and be careful to choose a lodge, resort or charter that supports sustainable, catch and release fishing with low impact circle hooks. Enjoy the video
