lake and stream fishingWhen many of us think of fly fishing the first thing that comes to mind are Trout, and you will not be disappointed when fly fishing for Trout in Costa Rica. While the “Tico Trout” are not known for their overly large size, their magnificent colors and the surroundings that you will find them in make up for it. A 3wt rod is the perfect choice to enjoy this beautiful fishery.

Prince Nymphs, Hare’s Ears, Pheasant Tails and Caddis will do the trick in 12-16 for these hungry fish. The Tico Trout can be found in many of the high mountain streams in Costa Rica from the Central Valley to Cerro de la Muerte and gives the adventurer a great way to know more of Costa Rica away from the beaches. Waders are not really needed so just grab a map (Google Earth), some water shoes and bring a dry change of clothes and you are on your way.Trout fishing in Costa Rica can be done year-round with the only exception being during the rainy season May-Oct, you could encounter a day or two of high water during and after a particularly hard rain. At the moment we are in full summer so go experience one of Costa Rica’s hidden gems.
