Capt Papagayo Sport FishingGreetings Anglers! Rick here from Dream On Sport Fishing on Costa Rica’s Northern Pacific Coast/Golfo Papagayo region. At the time of writing this report we’re at mid-February and the season has been going well. The sailfish and marlin bites have been unusually strong for this time of year and I expect them to be stable before improving as we approach our fishing ‘high season’. The roosterfish bite was a little slower to start but has been gaining momentum. We never worry about the roosterfish fishery around here…its world class and continues to be the best fishing in Central America, perhaps the world.

marlin fishing costa ricaWe consider March/April the ‘shoulder season’ of our peak Costa Rica fishing months. Blue marlin, striped marlin, sailfish, yellowfin and wahoo are all expected to ramp up this time of year. The mahi mahi (dorado, dolphin) bite has been is strong and it should see even bigger numbers in the coming months. Going into April everything should just keep getting better…especially sailfish. April marks the start of our big sailfish season, although we take them year round. The last few years have seen a dramatic increase in the yellowfin tuna bite around here. It has become a year ‘round fishery and the size and quantity has greatly improved. That being said, this time of year usually sees an increase in the catch and with what we’ve been seeing. I’m looking forward to the first 300 pounder in years to be caught. Be sure to follow us on Facebook to see plenty of pics, videos and latest news for our local fishery. Our 35’ Cabo (Dream On) just received a new twin disc transmission, 2 new alternators, batteries and more. She’s primed and ready to go hard!

Our friends at Maui Jim have hooked the captains up with some new glasses and they’re ready to spot your fish! Until next time Anglers! Tight Lines & Pura Vida!
